Why a sample is almost always the cheaper decision

Run the numbers once. A sample set costs €9.95 and ships free within Germany. A wrong order of 36 rolls means the wrong material sitting in your warehouse, a printing plate made for a tape you won't use, and three to four weeks of production time you get to wait through a second time. The ratio is so lopsided that our control monster flinches every time somebody says "it'll be fine."

And here's the thing: the properties that make tape fail in daily use appear on no data sheet. How loud a roll unwinds only registers around the twentieth parcel. Whether your packing team tears the tape cleanly by hand or reaches for a cutter every single time gets decided at the bench, not on paper. And how your corporate color actually looks on a translucent carrier is something no monitor will show you – screens emit light, tape doesn't.

The third reason is the underrated one: a sample convinces other people. Almost every piece of feedback in our reviews comes down to the same thing – purchasing, design and management sit down together, and a box with four rolls on it ends the discussion faster than any slide deck. If you need internal sign-off, the sample is your strongest argument.

Paper Sample Set

If the material question is already settled for you and kraft paper is a given, there's no point having PP and PVC rolls in the box. The paper set concentrates on that one material family. Useful for anyone going with paper for sustainability or disposal reasons who only wants to know how it actually feels in the hand. Sleeve Sample Set (green)

The sleeve set answers a question you simply can't ask on screen: what does a full-surface background actually look like? With a standard plate your logo sits on the tape's base color and a repeat seam stays visible between the designs. With a sleeve plate, color and artwork run seamlessly across the entire roll. The visual difference is considerable – and so is the price difference. This set contains both PVC and paper tapes, so you can see the effect on two very different carriers. What you should actually test on a sample

Most people open the set, peel off one strip and put it away. Shame – ten minutes gets you a lot more. Our recommendation, in this order:

1. Stick it on your own boxes. Not on your desk, not on the info leaflet. Recycled cardboard with a high waste-paper content has a noticeably rougher, dustier surface than fresh corrugated board – and that's exactly where you find out what holds and what lifts at the corners after two days. If you run several box grades, test on all of them.

2. Wait twenty-four hours. Tape doesn't reach its final bond strength immediately. A tape that sits perfectly right after application can look different after a day in a cold warehouse. Seal a test parcel, put it aside, look again tomorrow.

3. Tear it by hand – wearing work gloves. If your team packs with gloves on, test that way. It changes the handling noticeably.

4. Listen to the noise. Pull each roll off briskly once and pay attention. The difference between loud-unwinding hotmelt PP and quiet PVC or paper sounds harmless on a single roll. In a hall with twenty packing stations it becomes an occupational health matter.

5. Look at the print from two meters away. That's roughly how far a parcel is from you as it passes on the conveyor. From that distance you find out whether your logo reads or just registers as a colored stripe. Fine lines and thin typefaces fail this test.

6. Watch light colors closely. Our tapes are technically transparent, so light print colors aren't fully opaque and come out slightly translucent. If you're planning pastel shades, this is the single most important thing on the whole sample.

Once the decision is made, three steps follow. First, artwork: send your design vectorized as PDF, AI or EPS. Second, color: we convert your code from CMYK, HEX or RGB into Pantone. You've already seen on the sample how ink behaves on your chosen carrier, which makes sign-off considerably faster.

Third, quantity: minimum order is 36 rolls. If your packing bench still needs equipment, a hand dispenser with a 2K rubber grip takes every width up to 50 mm.

Frequently asked questions about tape samples

What does a sample set cost?

Each of the four sets costs €9.95 plus VAT. Within Germany we ship free of charge. Deliveries to other European countries carry a shipping charge – current rates are in the shipping policies.

How long does delivery take?

All sample sets are in stock, with a delivery time of 2–3 business days within Germany. That's the big difference to printed goods: your custom tape takes roughly 3 to 4 weeks depending on material, because the plate, the artwork check and your print approval sit in between. The sample ships straight from the warehouse.

Are the samples free?

No, they cost €9.95. We think that's the more honest route: a paid set arrives with four full rolls instead of cut-off strips, so you can actually seal parcels with it rather than just feel it. Given a per-roll price in the low single-digit euro range depending on material, that's roughly the material value.

What's in the material set?

Four tapes in three quality grades: PP hotmelt, PVC and paper. PVC appears twice – once transparent, once with a continuous custom-color background. Thicknesses run from 45 to 125 µm, roll lengths from 50 to 66 m.

Which widths does the sizes set include?

25, 38, 50 and 75 mm, each 66 m long on a 76 mm core (3 inches). The carrier is a 53 µm PVC film with natural rubber adhesive, removable residue-free. 50 mm is the standard width for regular parcel shipping – 25 mm suits narrow cartons, 75 mm large-volume boxes.

Can I get a sample with my own logo?

No. The sample sets show material, width and print quality using existing designs. Your own artwork means your own printing plate – and at that point it's no longer a sample order but regular production from 36 rolls. You do always get a print proof for approval before production, so you see your design before anything is printed.

Can I order several sets at once?

Yes, and with two open questions that makes sense. The material set and the sizes set together cost €19.90 and answer both fundamental questions in one delivery.

Can I order a sample as a private individual?

No. Only genuine business monsters order here: we sell exclusively to entrepreneurs under § 14 BGB, not to consumers under § 13 BGB. All prices are net, plus statutory VAT.

How long do the sample rolls keep?

For the PVC tape in the sizes set the data sheet states a shelf life of 2.5 to 3 years. Paper is more sensitive – there we recommend 6 to 12 months at 20 °C and 50 % relative humidity. Store dry and at an even temperature and the adhesion will still hold up when you retest later.

Do I get advice along with the sample?
